This is a starting point rather than a universal rule. The garment and logo still need to work together at the intended size and position.

Embroidery may be the better starting point

Consider embroidery for smaller logos, names and crests where a textured thread finish suits the garment and the design can be reproduced clearly in stitches.

Often considered for: polos, business shirts, work shirts, jackets, vests, caps and other uniform pieces.

Minimum charge: equivalent to 10 embroidered items per production run. Fewer garments can be ordered, but the minimum embroidery charge still applies.

DTF printing may be the better starting point

Consider DTF for full-colour or detailed artwork, gradients, larger designs and placements that may not translate well into embroidery.

Often considered for: front and back designs, sleeve or pant-leg prints, and promotional apparel that can safely accept heat and pressure.

Minimum charge: equivalent to 5 printed items per production run. Fewer garments can be ordered, but the minimum DTF charge still applies.

No setup fees: PlusEmbroidery does not charge setup fees for embroidery or DTF printing. Artwork preparation, stitch count, decoration size and other order requirements can still affect the decoration price.

The garment matters as much as the logo

A decoration method that suits the artwork may still need a different garment or position. Seams, pockets, zips, panels, lining, stretch, waterproof layers, reflective tape and other construction details can affect access, appearance and the usable decoration area.

DTF printing uses heat and must not be applied to flame-resistant garments or other melt-risk fabrics. For hi-vis and protective garments, placement and any relevant compliance requirements also need to be considered.

Which decoration method should I choose?

Embroidery often suits smaller logos and names where a stitched finish works well. DTF printing may better suit full-colour, detailed or larger designs. The final choice also depends on the garment, fabric, construction, placement, compliance needs and intended use.

Can every garment be embroidered or DTF printed?

No. Most products can be supplied plain or decorated, but seams, pockets, zips, lining, stretch, waterproof layers, reflective tape, heat sensitivity and compliance requirements can affect the available method or position.

Does PlusEmbroidery charge decoration setup fees?

No. PlusEmbroidery does not charge setup fees for embroidery or DTF printing. Relevant minimum decoration charges and the selected decoration price still apply.

What are the minimum decoration charges?

Embroidery has a minimum charge equivalent to 10 embroidered items per production run. DTF printing has a minimum charge equivalent to 5 printed items per production run. You can order fewer garments, but the relevant minimum decoration charge still applies. Blank garments can be ordered with no minimum quantity.

What artwork should I provide?

Send the clearest artwork available. Embroidery artwork is converted into stitch instructions, while DTF printing needs production-ready scalable artwork so the design remains clear at its finished size. The Artwork Requirements guide explains the differences.

Can DTF printing be used on flame-resistant garments?

No. DTF printing must not be used on flame-resistant garments and can also damage other fabrics that cannot tolerate the heat required for application.
