Embroidery vs DTF Printing
Embroidery vs DTF Printing: Which Decoration Method Should You Choose?
Embroidery and DTF printing are both effective ways to brand workwear, uniforms and apparel, but they are suited to different types of logos, garments and uses.
This guide explains the difference so you can choose the most suitable decoration method for your order.
Quick Comparison
Embroidery is usually best for professional uniform logos, polos, jackets and workwear where a premium stitched finish is preferred.
DTF printing is usually best for detailed, full-colour or larger designs, including front prints, back prints, sleeve prints and pant leg prints.
Choose Embroidery When
Embroidery is generally recommended when you want:
- A premium stitched finish
- A professional business uniform look
- A smaller logo placement such as left chest
- Branding for polos, jackets, vests or workwear
- A durable decoration method for regular use
- Consistency across repeat staff uniforms
Choose DTF Printing When
DTF printing is generally recommended when you want:
- Full-colour artwork
- More detail than embroidery can comfortably reproduce
- Larger print areas
- Front or back prints
- Sleeve or pant leg prints
- Promotional apparel or teamwear
- Designs with gradients, shading or complex elements
Which Looks More Professional?
For traditional business uniforms, embroidery often gives the most premium appearance. It is widely used on polos, jackets, business shirts and workwear.
For detailed artwork or larger designs, DTF printing may produce a cleaner and more accurate result than embroidery.
Which Is Better for Workwear?
For standard business logos, embroidery is often the best choice for workwear.
For larger branding, back prints, sleeve prints or detailed designs, DTF printing may be more suitable.
DTF printing cannot be used on fire retardant materials, polar fleece, or materials that may melt under heat.
Artwork Differences
For embroidery, most image and file formats can be used. Your logo is digitised into stitches as part of the embroidery process.
For DTF printing, artwork must be supplied in a scalable format suitable for printing so it stays sharp at the required size.
Minimum Decoration Charges
Blank garments can be ordered with no minimum quantity.
- Embroidery: minimum charge equivalent to 10 decorated items
- DTF Printing: minimum charge equivalent to 5 decorated items
You can order fewer garments if needed; however, minimum decoration charges still apply.
